Oil level Gauge!
Hi, my name is Tiago Freire, and I am from Portugal! I have a problem with a gauge from smiths. The gauge is a Oil Level Gauge, I know that he works with a sender unit in the place of the dipstick, and my problem is that I do not have de sender unit! Can annyone send me some information about the sender, and if possible how to make one, or where can I buy one. Thank you! Tiago Freire!

there is indeed an adaptor, it should come with the gauge or be available in a fitting kit to suit the gauge. i fitted a TIM pressure gauge to my car and it came with all of the connections, even allowed me to keep the oil pressure warning light. the only thing i would recommend is fitting a braided line for the gauge, the solid copper ones break really easy. mine lasted about 2 months, but my engine rocks like you wouldnt believe!

Twin point oil temperature gauge
Hi. I own a Mini 40 (twin point) which has an oil temperature gauge. The temperature reading has never been shown to rise above about 80 C, which I guess is a little on the low side!!! If anyone has any advice on what the possible problem could be, then itd be much appreciated. I dont fancy buying loads of bits and pieces in a trial-and-error effort to get it working properly. Thanks guys, Alex

Oil Pressure Gauge Pipe
When i bought my oil pressure gauge i also bought the braided pipe C-AHT9 i noticed that when i got it and checked it the pipe was to big to fit to the attachment at the back of my gauge (tim gauge) and that there was no way of attaching it to my block, can anyone help me find the parts needed to fit this pipe?

I got the copper one, but i got that one to make my engine look better and so that if my engine rocked too much the pipe would not break, i will be sending it back as i have looked at there catalogue and its a oil cooler pipe not a guage pipe as they say on the website.

mpi oil gauge
The oil switch is right of the filter as you look at the engine and you will need a T piece if you wish to keep your oil light switch. An OA union is required if you wish to discard the switch,(I can never see the oil indicator on my dash anyway no matter where i have my seat ) The capillary type oil gauge is the best type to use but getting it through the dash is hard work and you might need to dtill another hole in the firewall panel if you camnnot find an accesable hole alreday in use for other wires etc. Keep the capillary tube on the gauge as close to the engine and ijust over the stabiliser bar going back so you do not run out of length as it has slightly further to run than previos models. The car will run if the oil switch is disconnected without the ECU being affected allowing it to start as normal. Quite often the ECU seems to pick up on things not working giving other problems but all seems okay on my car.

Can anyone tell me how to fit a mechanical oil pressure gauge to a 1998 MPI 1275.There is already a oil temp gauge and i was led to believe you fixed an oil pressure gauge to another position on the block.

Where is the temp sender? Is it in the hole to the left of the distributor or in the sump? Ive never actually seen an mpi (they arent allowed in north america for a few more years), but that is the conventional place to plumb in a pressure sender. On pre-injection engines, this hole holds the swich for the oil pressure light.

Oil Pressure Gauge
I have fitted an oil pressure gauge to my MPi. Get the necessary bits from MS. a tee piece, etc remove the oil pressure switch at the front of the engine. Fit the Tee piece to the block and refit the oil pressure switch and oil pressure line. It is not that difficult.

Where did the gauge originally come from? Smiths made gauges for automobiles, farm equipment, indudustry applications etc.. Perhaps there's another message forum particular to the original application where someone could point you in the right direction. Interesting gauge, though, good luck in your search!
